North East Empowerment Partnership

VONNE succesfully hosted the North East Empowerment Partnership (NEEP),  "a forum for critical debate regarding the definitions of engagement and empowerment, and a practice-led exploration of their implications for policy and practice" for four years between 2007 and March 2011.

NEEP was one of nine regional partnerships within the National Empowerment Partnership resourced by central government to promote a "truly participative society and promote the fundamental role of empowerment in achieving a more equal, cohesive and democratic society."

The partnership succefully brought together a range of providers in the public, third and private sector to improve the quality, coordination and evidence of empowerment across the north east.

The legacy of the NEEP includes research, toolkits, and local collaborative projects between local authorities and community groups and residents. The data is now available on the resources page.

The partnership continues to meet to respond to economic and political change in particular the Big Society agenda. VONNE continues to support the partnership and the empowerment initiative through the "Building Capacity for a Big Society" project.
