Learning disability and health
Learning disability providers are in a good position to help improve the health of the people they support and also to influence policy to improve how health systems serve people with a learning disability. This page signposts resources that will be useful to providers in the North East.
North East Health Network
The Health Network is facilitated by Judith Thompson at the Strategic Health Authority- in the learning disability Clinical Innovation Team. The Health Network brings together everyone working to improve the health of people with a learning disability in the North East, sharing good practice and promoting improvements, including around health checking, the self assessment framework and the NE VIP card.

Improving Health and Lives Learning Disabilities Observatory
The Improving Health and Lives Learning Disabilities Observatory aims to keep watch on
- the health of people with learning disabilities
- the health care they receive
They have produced areport around learning disability and health in light of the changing health landscape. 'Health Inequalities and People with learning Disabilities in the UK: 2010 – Implications and actions for commissioners. Evidence into practice – Report No. 1'.
