Communications Network

Are you a Communications Worker in the North East? Would you like to contact with others in your position?

The Policy and Representation Partnership established a support network for communication workers in the third sector, in 2010; the aim of it was to share good practice and learning.

Since its inception there has been several meetings and training sessions

At an initial meeting attendees discussed what challenges they face and what support mechanisms could be provided to help them in their organisation. During this meeting a training session was provided around 'How to Get Your Story Across'. Full details of the meeting can be found in the event report on the right hand side of the page.

During the meeting the following challenges/support were agreed:

1. Challenges we face:

  • not having enough time,
  • getting our heads around social media and the best way to use it,
  • targeting the right audience,
  • internal communications,
  • making things look professional when standards are getting higher

2. What we need:

  • A virtual support network to share information and best practice
  • To meet twice a year and share some training

Since the meeting a Yahoogroup has been created to provide a secure area to share information, documents and pose questions to colleagues.

Two training sessions have been held around using Social Media in a third sector organisations. The first sessions focused on how your organisation can benefit from using social media and the second session looked at the practicalities of using different media tools such as Twitter and Facebook.
