Adult Social Care
Policy Topic: Adult Social Care in BME Communities
BECON will assess adult social care policies of two local authorities in the North East to understand how these local authorities are integrating needs of BME elders in their care policies and identify the availability of options for voluntary sector influence on policy and practice.
It is hoped that this research will highlight gaps which may exist within the North East and produce evidence which can be used to influence policy.
BECON intend to build awareness amongst BME elders and BME VCS organisations on available services and changes in adult social care policy to help them participate in local authority policy making.
It is envisaged that through this work the opportunities for BME VCS to participate in policy making will increase as opportunities are identified and disseminated.
If during the research, gaps are identified it is hoped that social enterprises will be able to develop services within BME communities to fill that gap.
An intiial briefing note can be downloaded from the right hand side of this page; it is intended to be able to provide the VCS details of the current policy position. For more information about this work or to become invovled contact Dean T Huggins at BECON - dean@becon.org.uk
