  • What We Do:
We are a support group for people with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and associated behavioural disorders, including addictive behaviour and mental health problems. We offer support to ADHD sufferers and to their families in the form of practical and emotional support and activities for families and children. If not medically diagnosed and treated, ADHD sufferers may turn to drugs and/or alcohol in an attempt to self-medicate to try and settle their restless brain. With early intervention, strategies can be put into place to help the sufferer understand and cope with their condition.
  • Services We Offer:
We offer practical and emotional support, backed up by leaflets about ADHD, co-morbid conditions and substance misuse. There are also books and videos available. Activities - we have a group called Crafty Corner, funded by Tees Valley Joint Strategy Unit/European Regional Development Fund, where people can use embroidery, sewing and knitting machines, jewellery making equipment, parchment craft equipment etc. to learn new skills with the possibility of thinking about employment. The Wheels Project, run in conjunction with the police, is a project where children/young people repair and refurbish old bike frames and, on completion, the bike is theirs to keep. This helps teach them how to work on their own initiative and as part of a team, health and safety, safe cycling etc. We have a self-help alcohol support group where members can access counselling and participate in cookery sessions. We run a grandparents' respite group, where grandparents, who have sole custody of their grandchildren because of parental drug/alcohol problems, can bring the children for the day, allowing themselves some respite time whilst the children take part in various activities and outings. We have been instrumental in giving substance misusers in the area a voice by hosting consultation events where they can talk to housing representatives, council officials, other service providers etc.
