Celebrating the North East Charity Awards: A Night of Inspiration and Community

Author: Amy Coates

The North East Charity Awards continue to shine a spotlight on the region's incredible charitable sector, and this year's event was no exception. Celebrating the 10th annual awards, the evening was held in grand style, with balloons, glitter and a photobooth station. Find out more about the evening in our blog below.

The awards celebrate the tireless work of charities, social enterprises, and not-for-profit organisations that make a lasting difference in the North East. VONNE was proud to support the event again, sponsoring the Uniquely North East award and attending alongside some of our Gold and Silver Membership+ members, as well as our former CEOs, Carol Botten and Jane Hartley, both of whom have played key roles in the development of this prestigious event since its inception.

For VONNE, the awards are more than just a celebration, they’re a night of connection and recognition for the charity sector. They provide a unique opportunity for us to engage with our Membership+ members, many of whom were nominated for awards. Seeing so many familiar faces among the nominees and finalists, it’s a proud moment for us, highlighting the incredible work of the organisations we network with and advocate for all year round. The event allows VONNE to foster stronger relationships with charities and stakeholders, strengthening the bonds that make the North East’s VCSE sector such a thriving and collaborative community.

The night was also an opportunity to reflect on the resilience and innovation of the sector, particularly in the face of ongoing challenges, like the recent racist riots and continued cost-of-living crisis. The nominees, from grassroots organisations to large charities, demonstrate the profound impact the sector has across communities in the North East, helping to alleviate hardship, support vulnerable groups, and drive social change. This was clearly recognised with Chopwell Regeneration Group, a CIO focussed on small, community-based projects picking up both the Rising Star and Uniquely North East awards, while the North East Child Poverty Commission, who have placed a large spotlight on the poverty crisis across the region, received the well-deserved Special Recognition award.

As the North East Charity Awards continue to grow, VONNE looks forward to being a part of this inspiring event for years to come. The celebration not only honours the region’s outstanding charities but also serves as a reminder of the strength, compassion, and community spirit that define the North East.

To all the nominees, winners, and supporters—thank you for your commitment to making the North East a better place for all. See you next year!
