Following the Mayoral election and the creation of the North East Combined Authority in May 2024, we are embarking upon the development of the plans that will guide our work over the coming years.

The Strategic Employment Plan will describe how partners in the region will collaborate to support economically inactive and unemployed residents into good quality, sustainable jobs.

We want the development of the North East Strategic Employment Plan to be a collaborative endeavour and the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector is an important partner in this, ensuring that organisational expertise and community voices are a valued part of the conversation. As such we are pleased to invite you to an initial stakeholder consultation discussion, hosted by VONNE, that will start to shape the strategy. Your expertise and insights are invaluable to shaping a skills strategy that meets the current, emerging and future skills needs of our region.

As a key stakeholder, your input will help us identify current challenges, opportunities and priorities to ensure our region can thrive with a skilled and adaptable workforce. This consultation will cover a range of important topics, including:

  • Delivering inclusive growth by extending job opportunities to people who are economically inactive or unemployed
  • Making it easier for people with health conditions to get a job and keep it
  • Tackling youth unemployment
  • Enhancing co-ordination between employment support providers, organisations working in local communities, and employers
