This event will reflect on key priorities for NEPACS in developing the next phase of the Support at Courts project as well as how we can (collectively) improve ‘Gateway Services’ for families when their loved ones are sent to prison, as envisioned in Lord Farmer’s report.
The event will be co-hosted by Ron Hogg, Durham Police, Crime and Victims Commissioner, who is interested in developing better ‘join up’ in services through the Local Criminal Justice Partnership. The event will include keynote speakers from local prisons, and are also enormously privileged to welcome Dr. Shona Minson from the Centre for Criminology at the University of Oxford. Shona has researched the impact on children when their mothers are sent into prison, and is particularly interested in the rights of children when they come into contact with the criminal justice system. She has also developed a series of DVDs aimed at educating sentencers about the impact of a prison sentence on dependent children, some of which she will include in her presentation.
