The Carbon Literacy Project recently passed the milestone of having 150,000 certified Carbon Literate citizens. In this article, the charity highlights some of the people behind this figure and tells the stories of their pledges and how they set about achieving them.

This article from Liz Gadd highlights a recent review of climate linked displacement in the UK. Whilst often considered an issue of other countries, few understand that coastal erosion, heatwaves, flooding and lack of insulation are forcing people from their homes. Three key insights from the report are drawn out, followed by useful areas of action.

How do some local climate projects achieve such remarkable impact? Carbon Copy commissioned leading sustainability consultancy Eunomia to conduct UK-wide research and find out what makes some place-based climate and nature projects successful. The new report, titled From Footprint to Changeprint, was published in March 2026.

The report’s findings are based on desk research and in-depth interviews with highly successful projects across the UK to give a 360-degree perspective across diverse case studies.

Projects that will be considered should provide access to the environment, community involvement, raise awareness and tackle the issues facing the environment and climate change. This call out brings together two funds; The North East Environment Fund (NEEF) and The Lawrence Campbell Community First Fund that exist to provide opportunities for the people of the North East to understand and tackle environmental issues and climate change.

Funding for small charitable organisations

Grants for Good is funded by the John Good Group and is designed to direct funding only to small and growing local charities, voluntary groups or social enterprises that are making a big impact on communities, people or the environment. To be eligible for our small charity funding, applicants must:

• Be a UK-based local community group, charity, voluntary group or social enterprise
• Have an annual income of less than £50,000.
• Have a bank account in the organisation’s name.

Up to £2,000

Grants awarded to community groups and farmers in County Durham, Cumbria, and Northumberland.

Funding from the North Pennines National Landscape is available to help more people experience the countryside and connect with nature. They are particularly interested in supporting groups who may have faced barriers to visiting the countryside in the past. 

Funding may be used for: 

• Visits such as walks and picnics 
• Well-being walks 
• Creative workshops (art, crafts, music, storytelling, photography, nature etc) 
• Camping trips on farms
