Job Title:                     Youth Work Assistant - x 3 posts available.

Salary:                          £5.60-£8.00 per hour (Depending on age)

Hours:                         Minimum 7.5hrs per week, with possibility of more.

                                   Sessional- Evening and weekend sessions with some youth project day-time activies/trips.

Location:                     One or more of the following villages West Rainton, Sherburn Village, Sherburn Hill or Pittington, to be arranged upon appointment

Purpose of job

To assist, support and work with Youth Workers in the general operation and preparation of youth work sessions.

Principle Responsibilities

  1. To support in the supervision of young people attending youth work sessions.
  2. Encourage participation and decision-making, which enable young people to make choices and take responsibility for their actions
  3. To be aware of current issues concerning young people and support delivery of issue based workshops within sessions to address need
  4. To develop positive relationships with young people and to provide opportunities for social education
  5. A commitment to improving services for young people
  6. To undertake an agreed programme of training

Main Duties

  1. Communicate effectively and develop a rapport with young people.
  1. Assist in the provision of advice and support to local community groups and agencies and act as an advocate for young people.
  1. Assist young people to express and realise their goals.
  1. Provide information, support and encouragement to young people and their peers to broaden their horizons and be active citizens.
  1. Enable young people to work effectively in groups and challenge inappropriate behaviour
  1. To attend staff meetings
  1. To undertake any other duties commensurate with the post.
  1. The post holder must carry out their duties with full regard to DAY’s Equal Opportunities Policy, Code of Conduct, Safeguarding and all other Policies.
  1. Attend regular training and development opportunities to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding, health & safety and local policy developments.
