35 hours per week, £19,128 per annum

The successful applicant will be responsible for the ongoing support of the Keeping in Touch (KIT) service to maximise service provision to socially isolated older people in Sunderland.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate experience of working with, recruiting and managing volunteers and have a strong commitment to achieving outcomes for older people who are lonely and isolated.

Applicants must possess a full driving licence and have access to a car for work.

Job Description

Post: Keeping In Touch (KIT) worker

Location: Bradbury Centre

Responsible to: Front Door Manager

Job Purpose

To operationally support Age UK Sunderland’s KIT services. The post holder will recruit, train and support service volunteers and identify older people to access the service.

The post holder will also be responsible for supporting the ongoing development of the service to maximise service provision to socially isolated older people in Sunderland.

Job Description

  • To recruit, support and train the project volunteers for the KIT services.
  • To support and monitor the volunteers to ensure service standards are met and targets are achieved
  • To monitor the project and provide written reports/summaries as required.
  • To effectively promote and market the project.
  • To oversee the KIT volunteers in the operational delivery of the face to face and telephone befriending service
  • To monitor and review the standards of the service ensuring continuous improvement.
  • To conduct home visits to potential service users to ensure they are linked appropriately with the right volunteer
  • To keep accurate records of clients and volunteers accessing the KIT service within the Charity Log database in line with AUKS policies and procedures
  • Liaise appropriately with external agencies to establish professional working relationships to access appropriate referrals and risk assessments for the project
  • Investigate new and innovative technologies to achieve service efficiency and quality
  • Comply with General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR)
  • To act as a Safeguarding alerter
  • To abide by and implement all policies and procedures of Age UK Sunderland, including being aware of and responsible corporately and as an individual for Health and Safety policy
  • To undertake all reasonable tasks, in keeping with the level of responsibility of the post, as requested by the Director

Essential Criteria

  • Understanding of and empathy with the needs and aspirations of older people
  • Must have a strong commitment to achieving outcomes for older people who are lonely and isolated
  • Ability to prioritise and manage a busy workload
  • Be I.T. literate
  • Experience of working with, recruiting and managing volunteers.
  • Have experience of supporting and motivating volunteers.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Be honest, reliable and trustworthy.
  • Have a flexible approach to work.
  • Work well independently and as part of a team
  • Have complete discretion and maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Educated to NVQ Level 3 level or relevant working experience.
  • Possess a full driving licence and have access to a car for work.
