If you think that internationalism is important and want to play a part in helping Newcastle develop further as a city with strong international relations and opportunities – joining our Board may be for you.
Newcastle is home to a diverse range of international communities and we have worldwide civic, community, business, cultural and investment links. We are committed to promoting, valuing and celebrating internationalism in the city and generating opportunities and impact through meaningful international relationships. International Newcastle is a Community Interest Company which is building a strong partnership and helping drive and co-ordinate an international relations approach, which builds on everyone’s resources, experience, skills and links to bring social, economic and cultural benefits to the city.
We are looking for up to 3 people to join our current Board of Directors. Following a review process and recruitment round in Autumn 2020, we are still seeking people who will bring expertise and experience and are representative of the City’s diverse cultural communities and international diaspora, including both existing and new communities.
We welcome expressions of interest from individuals with a range of backgrounds and aim for diversity across our Board members, partners and stakeholders. We offer induction to all Board members and additional support is available for individuals without prior board experience. Whilst board members will be expected to share their particular areas of expertise, the role remains voluntary, advisory and not executive.
Our Newcastle Our World is our international city plan and provides a framework for collaboration and support for international relations within the city and across the world.
Our priority theme 2020-22 is Newcastle as a city for children and young people (0-30) to be confident, global citizens – which is all about empowering young people and opening up access to international and intercultural experiences and opportunities.
We have an ambitious work programme and the Board plays an important role in helping to deliver this, in conjunction with the Director and our partners across the city, region, UK and internationally. You can see a summary of our progress and plans in this short presentation.
