Team Kenya is a small charity founded in 2008 based in the north east of England which works closely with a partner organisation (NCEDP) on the ground in Ndhiwa, Kenya. The two organisations have worked together since NCEDP was founded in 2007 as a grassroots, self-help group run by local community members. In 2015 NCEDP became a registered Kenyan NGO. Projects are designed together, funded through Team Kenya and implemented by the NCEDP team who are Kenyan (many are also from Ndhiwa). Team Kenya’s role is to provide funding, capacity building, training, friendship and support to NCEDP. This model has been very successful but moving forward we would like the kind of support Team Kenya currently offers to be replaced by short to medium term capacity building of the team in Kenya. The goal is for NCEDP to be self-sustaining in the long term with minimal intervention other than financial support and associated project monitoring. This will involve a considerable shift in decision making, leadership and planning from Team Kenya to NCEDP.
To help with this transition we are looking for a temporary Change Realisation Lead who will:
- support the UK team to transition out of significant operational involvement in projects in Kenya.
- provide guidance and practical solutions in order to facilitate the transition the charity seeks to make.
- establish the steps needed to facilitate the transition including outlining short, medium and longer-term target.
A draft timeline for the changes has been in place since October 2019 and several documents have been produced which summarise the current projects, how they are managed and funded and which give more detail of the areas of work that need to be handed over. Once the successful candidate is appointed, detailed conversations will be needed in the initial period with Team Kenya and our Change Manager (Kenya) to determine the full methodology of the transition and associated requirements for reporting to trustees.
The outcome for the Change Realisation Lead is to ensure that the appropriate structures and processes in the UK are in operation by the end of April 2020 to support this transition. We expect the successful candidate to produce a final written plan and accompanying report which outlines subsequent actions and resources needed for a successful transition period as well as identifying any specific training and support needs. It is possible that the successful candidate may then be asked to support the organisation to implement the plan, however this would be discussed towards the end of the initial planning phase.
The change realisation lead will report to the Board via a named trustee and will be supported by the Trustees, paid staff and volunteers. The expected timescale for this work is 2 - 3 months. The salary will be negotiated with interested parties.
If you are interested in this work, please contact Lynda Evans, Acting Chair of Trustees (firstname.lastname@example.org 07805251054) to arrange an initial conversation to learn more about the organisation and the scope of this project.
