About you

Do you hold an NVQ Level 3 / degree level / or equivalent professional qualification relevant to the role (English, Communications, Media, CIM, CAM or CIPR qualifications) with evidence to support? Do you hold at least 2-3 years professional experience in an internal communications environment?

Do you have evidence of delivering internal communications content and channels, including intranet management, to a professional standard – this is an essential element of the job and will be tested at interview? Do you have evidence of producing high-quality tailored content for different staff audiences and needs – developing inspiring internal content is an essential element of the job and all applicants must be able to demonstrate outstanding English and writing skills? Do you have proven track record of delivering, managing and measuring intranet and internal channels for employee engagement?

Do you have commitment to detail, ensuring all work is accurate, concise and understandable? Do you have high-quality oral and written communication skills? Do you have the ability to communicate with a range of internal audiences in an appropriate and engaging style?

Do you have the ability to bring an enthusiastic, positive and creative approach to delivery of the role? Do you have commitment to equality, diversity and fairness within the workplace?

Changing Lives is a national charity that supports over 14,500 people each year. We are a well-respected, growing organisation dedicated to supporting the most vulnerable people across the UK.

We began as a soup run supporting people who were homeless in the North East over 45 years ago, and are proud to still have our main base and central office in the North East. Since 1970, our services have grown and developed to support people experiencing a wide range of personal challenges, including addiction and recovery programmes, employment guidance, help for people in prison or on probation, and support for people experiencing sexual exploitation or domestic abuse.

About the job

We are looking for a creative and enthusiastic individual who will help Changing Lives to continue to build its brand and reputation as a respected charitable voice in the field of social exclusion and multiple disadvantage.

This role focuses on internal communications and employee engagement, and no two days are the same.

We have 135+ projects across the North, Yorkshire and Midlands, which focus on supporting people in the following areas:

  • Housing and Homelessness Services
  • Drug and Alcohol Services
  • Employment Services
  • Women and Children’s Services

You will be involved in a wide range of strategic and practical internal communications activity, from creating compelling communications channels and internal campaigns aimed at engaging our 500+ staff, to drafting briefings on key issues that affect the people who use our services. You’ll help launch new projects, ensure all our colleagues are up to date with the latest news and policies, and be an excellent communicator to help inspire and motivate our staff right across the country.

You’ll be a creative individual with established skills in the development and delivery of a portfolio employee communications channels, and will have previous experience in leadership of an internal communications function – all focused on supporting the delivery of our organisational strategy. You will have a commitment to the aims of Changing Lives, and an interest in the policy landscape that we work in would be a distinct advantage. 

Some travel to projects around the UK will be required (monthly). You will come into regular contact with people who use our services and a DBS certificate will be required, as well as an understanding approach with people who face multiple disadvantage.
