Community Enterprise Development Manager (temporary fixed term initially)

About us: Family Gateway is an award-winning family support charity working in some of the most disadvantaged communities of the North East of England. Our Barefoot Professional approach means that we employ people with lived experience of poverty and disadvantage to support whole families who are struggling with a range of complex needs and have barriers to working with other services and agencies.

We have a clear and ambitious plan to develop and grow our community-based offer and to grow our community enterprises to deliver social impact and generate unrestricted income through trading. The development and growth of our community enterprises is a key aspect of our strategic plan and currently requires high level dedicated development support.

 About the role: We are seeking to appoint an experienced and professional manager to a new post of Community Enterprise Development Manager which has been funded initially for 6 months after which time it will be reviewed and may potentially be extended. The purpose of the role is role is to review existing enterprises and income-generating activities in our community hub in Howdon, Wallsend with a view to accelerating growth and increasing income generation over the short, medium and long term. It is also about identifying and planning new community enterprises based on community need and income generating opportunity.

The person we are looking for: We are looking to recruit an experienced, highly organised, professional individual with excellent business development and planning skills who also has an aptitude for sales and income generation and a good understanding of community engagement and social impact. You will be able to work independently as well as part of a team and you will have excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to making things happen.  You will be enterprising, creative and have an appetite for success and results. Ideally you will have a background in community or social enterprise.

You will be self-motivated and will be able to evidence a strong work ethic and understanding of, and affinity to, our work in reducing poverty and improving life chances for children, young people and families. A proven ability to build and develop a strong relationships with internal teams, external stakeholders and clients will also be important.

Key information:

Full time 37.5 hours per week flexible hours (part time hours may be considered for the right candidate)

Term: Six months initially

Salary: circa £30,000 pa fte negotiable depending on experience
