Are you interested in listening to and supporting young people? There’s something new happening in Scotswood & Denton Burn…

DETACHED YOUTH WORKERS REQUIRED to join Scotswood Garden’s Detached Youth Work Team

The Trustees of Scotswood Natural Community Garden are looking to appoint experienced, enthusiastic and self-motivated Detached Youth Workers (contracted and sessional) to support the Youth Manager in establishing, planning, delivering and evaluating a new detached youth work programme.

The successful candidates will have experience of working with young people aged 11-18, ideally in a detached youth work setting, knowledge of the issues affecting young people in our community and a youth work or similar relevant qualification.

The Scotswood Rangers detached youth work team currently works on Thursdays 2-7pm. Another night will be introduced in Sept 2021 in negotiation with the successful candidate. Initial 4mth fixed term contract, extending to Aug 2023 if project is successful.

Our existing Play & Youth programme is centre-based in our beautiful community garden, offering outdoor and nature based play & youth groups 3 times a week for local children and young people aged 5 –18, plus a weekly inclusive art/music club for children with their friends and siblings. We are now expanding our provision to offer detached youth work in the local area.

The majority of the young people who access our services have complex family lives and experience the challenges of living within a disadvantaged community. You will share our passion for ensuring that all children and young people have the opportunity to excel and realise their potential.
