Difference is a new North East disability rights charity, created by a group of local disabled people, aiming to change perceptions of disability. We decided to focus on rights instead of service provision because we know that the negative impact of unequal rights is far reaching, e.g. disabled people are twice as likely to live in poverty as others, much more likely to be out of employment, and when they are, receive lower pay, and are not equally represented in political office. There are a multitude of other negative impacts which serve to exclude and marginalise disabled people.

We are looking for an experienced Development Manager with a broad range of skills and experience who can work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders to develop Difference into a high profile voice of disabled people in the north east. The purpose of the role is to develop the profile of the organisation across communities and professionals in the region, conduct research with disabled people using the website, social media, face to face meets and by engaging with other local disability groups and to be a visible presence in the north east professional and non-professional community, attending relevant regional and local meetings, community events and being seen in public spaces.
We are looking for someone with the ability to think creatively around problem solving, can work using their own initiative and can plan and prioritise their workload accordingly. You must also have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
We welcome applications from disabled people.
