Project Lead Worker within the Direct Payments Support Service

This post may be suitable for people with a HR or payroll background but would like the opportunity and challenge to make a positive difference to the lives of disabled people and carers.


Grade/Salary:                       £9.23 per hour


Responsible to:                  The Service Co-ordinator, Manager and the Executive Committee of Darlington Association on Disability


Area of Work:                       Based at Enterprise House, Valley Street, Darlington, working across Tees Valley


Hours:                                    18.75 hours per week


Holidays:                               25 days plus bank holidays (pro rata)


Benefits                                 Pension, Sickness scheme, mileage allowance/travel costs are reimbursed for mileage in the course of work (not to and from work).


Objective of the Post:

To work alongside disabled people, carers and parents of disabled children who use direct payments to meet support needs.  To provide as much or as little support as necessary, enabling the person to use and manage their direct payments, to have greater choice and control over their lives.


Main Duties include work with people who use direct payments to identify current and ongoing support they will need to manage their direct payment and in discussion with direct payment users, provide the level of support required to enable the service user to set up their direct payment, employ staff of their choice and / or secure support from an organisation.


The successful applicant  should have experience working within a team setting, with/supporting disabled people to achieve personal goals and experience of interagency working.  They should also have knowledge of the Social Model of Disability, good knowledge of direct payments and issues relating to them and the personalisation agenda with social care.
