The Linskill and North Tyneside Community Development Trust is an independent registered Charity (charity no: 11191243) and Company Limited by Guarantee (Company No: 04827255). It was established in July 2003 to complete a community asset transfer of the Linskill Centre, based at North Shields, from North Tyneside Council. The centre was due to be demolished by the Council; however a community campaign was raised to save it. The Trust completed the asset transfer in April 2006 and has successfully developed it into a thriving community centre that serves the communities of North Tyneside. It is one of the largest asset transfers in the Country and also manages two further assets in the Borough – Battle Hill Multi Use Centre and Royal Quays Community Centre.

The Trust has successfully converted the centres into financially self-sustainable community facilities and gradually secured capital investment to improve the facilities. The centres combined attract over 18,000 visits per month, the Trust also has an OFSTED registered Nursery for 79 children per day, a commercial kitchen and cafe, four large halls and licensed bar for events, and a community programme providing a comprehensive range of activity for all ages and 30 permanent tenants offering services across North Tyneside.

We are now looking for motivated and committed volunteers to join our existing Board and to strengthen the support to the senior management team, in realising our charitable objectives, strategic priorities and gaining financial means to deliver the work that we are passionate about.

We would particularly welcome people with skills / experience in the following areas:

•   Community Development

•   Property Management and Capital Investment

•   Financial Management / Accounting

•   Law

•   Insurance / Health and Safety

•   People with experience of working in the community and voluntary sector

The roles are unpaid, although reasonable expenses are reimbursed. Meetings are once every six weeks, mainly in the evenings. Some day time meetings may be required. Successful candidates will be asked to apply for an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
