Who we are
The Workers’ Educational Association is a unique charity and the UK’s largest voluntary sector provider of adult education. With a clear vision and a strong social purpose, we bring great teaching to local communities, with life-changing courses held in community centres, workplaces, schools and almost anywhere else you can think of. Since 1903, we have been giving people the opportunity to return to learning – inspiring them to realise their full potential and become active, engaged citizens. We see education as a tool for social justice, not just self-improvement, and we pride ourselves on making learning egalitarian and accessible. Volunteers play a central role in everything we do, from governance through to classroom support, helping us deliver courses nationally to 50,000 people in 2,300 locations – and enabling us to reach 80% of the population.
About the role
Developing, delivering and maintaining a key educational programme, in close partnership with a diverse range of local voluntary and community organisations, you will ensure that our students enjoy an outstanding experience; you will work with partners, communities and students to identify educational opportunities, sourcing venues, recruiting students, raising contracts and overseeing the quality of that provision. You could also find yourself involved in specialist aspects of regional educational provision, quality and teaching, whilst actively promoting our crucial work – so every day will bring different challenges.
Whatever your background, you will need teaching qualifications, alongside experience of developing tutors and working closely with or in locally based voluntary and community sectors. Equally importantly, you should be very organised and methodical, with good leadership and coaching skills, be flexible, able to work on your own initiative and work closely with your team to achieve WEA’ vision, mission and values.
