Essence Service Arts & Craft Tutor (Casual)

£17.35 per hour

(Hourly rate includes planning, preparation and administration)

We require an Arts & Crafts Tutor to provide creative, interesting and stimulating activities to our clients some of whom are living with mild to moderate dementia. This is a great opportunity for you to engage with older people within our community and have a positive impact on their lives.

Experience of delivering Arts & Crafts is essential. Experience of delivering activities to people living with dementia would be an advantage.

It is desirable that you have a minimum NVQ (or equivalent) Level 3 qualification in Arts & Crafts as well as a teaching qualification (you can be working towards one), such as the Level 3 Award in Education & Training (QCF).

Role: Essence Service Arts & Craft Tutor (Casual)

Responsible to: Essence Manager

Job Purpose:

 To teach a varied programme of arts and crafts to older people living with mild to moderate dementia, which enables clients to improve self-esteem and self-confidence and to develop their creativity.

Job Description:

  • Design a structured programme of delivery for each class, in agreement with Essence Activity and Wellbeing Organiser, that reflects the published subject and level and that will match the needs of participants.
  • Use appropriate teaching methods to promote engagement in the programme, assess each learner’s prior knowledge and establish their ability at the start of the course, monitor their progress session by session and, together with individual learners, evaluate progress at appropriate intervals.
  • Develop participants’ confidence and self-esteem. Ensure that each participant’s contribution is recognised and valued and create a climate conducive to the needs of adults.
  • Complete all relevant administrative and recording tasks related to delivery of the programme, to a high standard.
  • Achieve specified targets and meet deadlines.
  • Continue to develop professional skills, knowledge and expertise, attending training and development events as and when required.
  • To abide by and implement all policies and procedures of Age UK Sunderland, including: Safeguarding, Equal Opportunities and Health and Safety.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Experience of teaching Arts & Crafts to adult learners.
  • To be highly personable with excellent communication skills.
  • To be highly self-motivated and able to motive others.
  • To work with a positive, flexible and professional manner.
  • To be honest, trustworthy and reliable.
  • Ability to use information technology to enhance teaching, learning and assessment.
  • To be organised with ability to produce high quality course documentation and resources.
  • Able to work with a variety of colleagues and clients from different professions and backgrounds
  • Subject based Arts & Crafts qualifications to at least NVQ (or equivalent) Level 3 is desirable.
  • Teaching qualification (can be working towards one), such as the Level 3 Award in Education & Training is also desirable.
