Finance Administrator

20 hours per week, £18,164 pro rata per annum

2-year fixed term contract

We are looking for a self-motivated, enthusiastic, well organised individual to assist the Finance Manager and Accountancy Technician with the administrative operation of all our financial systems. Candidates will ideally have an excellent working knowledge of Excel and Sage accounts and payroll.

Job Description

Post: Finance Assistant (Part time – 20 hours per week)

Responsible to: Finance Manager

Location: Bradbury Centre, Stockton Road, Sunderland


Job Purpose

To provide assistance to the Finance Department in all aspects of the accounting and finance operations of the charity and its trading subsidiary.

Job Description

Specific Responsibilities

  • To maintain the cash books of the charity, both manually and within the Sage accounting system.
  • To post supplier invoices and credit notes and ensure they are coded correctly in the system.
  • To communicate with relevant suppliers to process invoicing or payment queries.
  • Preparing and processing supplier payments in preparation for final payment authorisation.
  • To prepare and issue invoices for chargeable services and contracts.
  • To track incoming payments.
  • To resolve outstanding payments and work with debtors on clearing outstanding amounts on account.
  • To update account information and records to clients.
  • To assist in the month-end and year-end financial operations of the charity.
  • To follow all organisational Safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • To follow all GDPR procedures and principles.
  • To abide by all policies and procedures of Age UK Sunderland, including being aware of and responsible corporately and as an individual for Health and Safety policy.
  • To undertake all reasonable tasks, in keeping with the level of responsibility of the post, as requested by the Director.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Have a good standard of education, ideally to A Level or equivalent.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Be IT literate with significant experience in Excel.
  • Ability to organise and manage own work and to work accurately under pressure; able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Enthusiastic and positive disposition with a strong commitment to training and self-development.
  • Be honest, reliable and trustworthy.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.

Desirable Criteria

  • Have a good level of experience of, invoicing and credit control.
  • Be an experienced user of Sage Accounting software, ideally using Sage 50.
  • Have an empathy with older people and the aims of the charity.
