Head of Communications
12-month fixed term contract (with the possibility of a permanent position)
Shape our communications strategy so we can share the message of Christ.
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle spans 152 Parish communities and 19 Partnership areas across 3195 square miles. Serving a population of 2,368,000 people, we have a clear mission to build communities of faith and help people live life to the full.
In this pivotal position, you will shape and deliver our communications strategy and enable us to share the message of Christ with all. Bringing together stakeholders at every level, you will assist the general public in understanding our vital work and actively strengthen our identity and brand. In particular, you will act as the Bishop’s media spokesperson, advise Diocesan personnel on all aspects of communications and media, and champion innovation in electronic media.
Educated to degree level and experienced within third sector organisations, you will be skilled in taking communications strategies from concept to implementation. Like us, you should be passionate about the positive impact of the Church and you will have a strong understanding and be supportive of our spiritual mission. Equally importantly, you should bring exposure to senior management roles, giving you deep knowledge of brand development, internal and external communications plans, KPIs, social media and engagement with journalists. Finally, an understanding of data protection laws would be extremely useful, as would a strong grounding in IT and a background in overseeing the development of internet and intranet sites.
In return, we offer an excellent salary, a generous pension scheme with employer contributions of up to 7.5%, and 30 days’ annual leave. Whilst we would prefer you to join us on a full-time basis, we will consider flexible working arrangements for the right person.
