The Police and Crime Commissioner for Northumbria, Kim McGuinness, and Northumbria Police Chief Constable, Winton Keenen are looking for members for their Joint Independent Audit Committee.

The Independent Audit Committee plays a key role in enhancing public trust and confidence in the governance of the Police and Crime Commissioner and the Chief Constable and provides advice on them on the principles of financial reporting, internal controls, corporate governance, risk management, statutory financial duties and issues identified by their respective auditors.

Applicants will need to be able to absorb and analyse complex information and make clear, independent judgements, have financial awareness, be able to think independently and have a balanced approach to significant issues.  It is desirable that you also have an awareness and understanding of public sector and are able to listen and challenge in a constructive manner and have knowledge of corporate governance issues.  

We would specifically welcome those with an understanding of changing policing needs, partnership working, equalities and the needs of local communities and knowledge of the role of the Commissioner’s and Force’s key activities.  

Applicants must also either live or work in the Northumbria Police Force area. 

The appointment will initially be for four year with the option of appointment for a further four year term.  An allowance of £104.50 per meeting and reasonable expenses will be payable for attendance at these meetings.
