New Writing North is the literature development agency for the North of England, and an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation. We work in partnership with regional and national partners to produce a range of literary and performance activities including flagship projects such as the Northern Writers’ Awards, Young Writers, the David Cohen Prize, the Gordon Burn Prize and Durham Book Festival. We’re a small organisation with a dedicated, creative team, supported by a great board of trustees. Based in Newcastle upon Tyne, we work to support writers and literature across the North of England.
Full-time. Pay Band: £22,250 – £26,000. Please note it’s our policy to recruit at the lower level of the pay band.
The Programme Manager (Participation and Young People) plays a key role in coordinating New Writing North’s Young Writers programme. The overarching goal of the programme is that as a result of our work, young people have increased capacity to make informed choices about their lives and can fulfil their potential.
In order to achieve this, we run a range of programmes, using a human-centred approach. The activity includes open access programmes, which run year-round in the North East, including young writers’ groups, summer schools, and time-limited projects.
Our targeted programmes work in communities at a scale and intensity that is proportionate to their disadvantage. As part of the targeted programme, we are currently running Young Writers’ City in Gateshead, Newcastle and Sunderland, where we are embedded throughout the year.
