Calvert Kielder

Help us transform lives and build a sustainable future

Since 1981 we have helped transform the lives of over 150,000 disabled people their families and friends. Now we want to reach even more beneficiaries and build a sustainable future.

We have set ourselves the challenge to increase the number of our beneficiaries from 6,000 pa to over 7,000 pa by 2023. This will result in a breakeven thus establishing a sustainable foundation for the long term.

To achieve this objective we are seeking someone who has experience and skills in selling and marketing relevant to the leisure, tourism, educational and disability sectors.

You will be joining a group of eight Trustees and be part of an integrated team working with the executive to deliver a sustainable future.

The Board meets usually two to three times a year either at Calvert Kielder or a venue near Hexham. A Managing Trustee Committee meets up to four times a year and if required more often to consider one off issues. The role will require some time outside of board meetings to give advice and guidance on how best to develop our selling and marketing capability.

About Us

Calvert Kielder was founded in 1981 to transform the lives of disabled people their families and friends. We build;

Inner strength

Self confidence

Through these outcomes we help reduce social exclusion, strengthen family ties, help participation in community life and empower people to live life to the full.

To do this we have built an accessible 152 bedded complex in the Kielder Water & Forest Park. We employ 45 staff and provide a wide range of land and water based activities. We are unique in also offering a personal care service.

Each year some 20,000 days of activity are provided to over 6,000 beneficiaries. Over 700 partner organisations use our services as part of their own work with their clients.

Beneficiaries come mainly from the North East, Midlands and Scotland. They comprise disabled people with all degrees of severity, their families and friends. We also welcome people who are sympathetic to our values and work. Integration and inclusion are the hallmarks of our service.
