About Family Gateway
Family Gateway is a family and child poverty charity that operates across the North East of England with a clear mission to improve lives for families and children. It has operated its successful Barefoot Professional model of support for over 12 years, employing local people who have experienced the same or similar issues as those we support and these Family Entrepreneurs use their skills and knowledge to engage and support others towards sustainable positive outcomes. The organisation has grown year on year and has ambitious plans to deepen its impact in the local areas of the North East in which it operates.
Our programmes of work include: working with families to prevent children moving into the Care system; working with families and children to improve physical and mental health; working with families to improve their child’s educational attendance and achievement; and working with young people and their families to divert young people from crime. Interventions are bespoke and varied and include intensive support for all family members that is not time-constrained and ends when the family demonstrated resilience and sustained improvements in confidence, wellbeing and positive engagement with services and activities. The most critical element of our work is our ability to engage with those individuals who have real barriers to accepting support and working with other services and professional.
The Trustee role
We are seeking to appoint up to 5 new trustees to fill gaps in our skills and to replace recently retired trustees in the following areas:
- Marketing and PR
Our Trustees are a key part of our organisation and fulfil a key role in governance as well as steering the strategic planning process. We operate a number of sub-committees to ensure that we focus on our key areas of risk and growth and the main Board meets every two months. Outside of Board meetings you will be expected to take a lead on areas of governance pertinent to your skills and expertise and support the core leadership team with planning, compliance and general strategy.
We are keen to appoint committed individuals who generally have a connection with our cause of improving lives for children and families who are suffering inequalities and living complex lives and for whom professional services have failed to be effective.
