Wheels 2 Work County Durham is a moped-loan charity set up to enable individuals to access employment by overcoming the barrier of a lack of available transport. The charity now supports people across the whole County Durham area and has helped more than 200 people into employment and training. The charity’s office is based in Chester-le-Street.

 

We are looking for Trustees to join our Management Board to help support the management and development of the charity. 

 

Our Trustees offer general support to the small team of delivery staff, help direct the future of the project and are involved in strategic decisions and issues surrounding governance. We are ideally looking for professional knowledge, experience and skills in at least one of the following areas: Accountancy, HR, PR & Marketing, Business, Fundraising and IT. 

 

We are also looking for a Treasurer to oversee the financial affairs of the organisation and ensure the finances are lawful and fall within accepted accounting practices and the organisation’s constitution. 
 

The Treasurer will ensure proper financial records are kept and that effective financial procedures are in place in liaison with the board of trustees and staff. Applicants must have a sound working knowledge of Quickbooks and will be required to report on the financial health of the organisation and oversee the production of necessary financial reports/returns, accounts and audits.

 

Applicants should live locally enough to enable them to attend Board meetings in person (notwithstanding any localised rules relating to Covid-19). They will be required to report on the organisation’s financial position at Board meetings every 2 months and to provide information on relevant balance sheets, cash flow, income/expenditure, etc. all of which information can be extracted from Quickbooks. They will oversee the production of an annual budget, monitor actual income and expenditure against budget and advise on financial viability of the organisation. They will create/authorise BACS payments and will generate monthly staff salary payments including pensions, PAYE and NI and others as appropriate. 
 
Support will be provided by the Project Manager, with the role focusing more on the higher level financial control. This is a voluntary, unpaid position.
