Every year, the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) surveys charity leaders to understand the challenges they face, and to assess the impact these challenges have on the sector’s ability to meet the needs of its beneficiaries. You might remember the report by its previous name, the Social Landscape Report?
Results from 2019's survey reveal a complex mixture of hope, fear and resilience; against an ongoing backdrop of uncertainty and change. Some of the most significant obstacles facing charity leaders include income generation, Brexit and public trust, with technology being viewed as a double-edged sword by many and few charities feeling optimistic about government support for the sector.
The report also revealed that a fifth of charities with an income of less than £1 million are struggling to survive. Several recommendations are made to help charities adapt to current challenges and ‘brave’ the current landscape.
