Clinks publish State of the sector 2018

Key trends for voluntary sector organisations working in the criminal justice system Clinks has been collecting information about how voluntary organisations working in criminal justice are faring for the last six years. The 2018 report presents the most detailed information about these organisations to date. It explores what services organisations are delivering, to whom and how organisations are funded to do this. They found that:

Awards for North East work in crime reduction
Criminal Justice
Professionals working with prisoners, ex-prisoners or those sentenced to community punishments in the North East are being given the chance to get recognition for their efforts to reduce re-offending by entering the 2017 Nepacs’ Awards. 2017 will be the thirteenth year of the Nepacs’ Awards and will once again recognise the innovative work taking place across the North East to help offenders to resettle in the community and rebuild their lives.

Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner’s Community Fund

Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner’s Community Fund Groups supporting their neighbourhoods and communities across Northumbria have again been invited to apply for money from Police and Crime Commissioner Dame Vera Baird QC’s Community Fund. Launched this week, the 2017/18 fund is available for activities or projects supporting key priorities in the Commissioner’s Police and Crime Plan specifically:

Clinks' work in the North East
Criminal Justice
North East Development Officer, Natalie Maidment will be going on maternity leave in mid October. Abi Lunn, will pick up the work of supporting the voluntary sector working in Criminal Justice, 3 days per week in her role as North East Development Assistant. Abi's intended working pattern will be Monday - Wednesday and will continue her role as VONNE's Policy and Adminstration Support Officer Thursday's and Friday's.

£1.7m funding for the VCS to engage with reform prisons

NOMS are inviting expressions of interest for a series of grant awards to support VCS organisations that can provide innovation across the prison system. To achieve a truly reformed estate it is essential that a diverse market is in place which includes the full involvement of the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector. This grant programme is open to VCS organisations with the purpose of accessing new services, approaches, or innovation that might be able to support a reformed prison estate.

Prison Reforms

In the Queen's Speech 2016 it was announced that there would be a prison reform and courts bill. The bill is being branded as the biggest shake up of prisons since Victorian times, with the creation of reform prisons. The reform prisons will provide governors with more powers to enter into contracts and establish their own Boards.

North East End Violence Against Women and Girls Network Police and Crime Commissioner Husting Events

This is your opportunity to ask questions of all the candidates competing for your vote to be your next Police and Crime Commissioner. NEEVAWG is working with MVDA to host a hustings for the wider voluntary sector in Middlesbrough and is hosting hustings with a specific focus on violence against women and girls in Durham and Newcastle.

Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner's Community Fund

Grants of up to £2,000 are available to charities, voluntary groups, community groups and social enterprises tackling anti-social behaviour, promoting crime prevention and building community confidence in the Northumbria Police Force area. Any Sunderland, South Tyneside, Gateshead, North Tyneside, Newcastle or Northumberland group can apply for the funding with applicants asked to send an application form saying what they hope to achieve from their project and how it supports the Police and Crime Plan.

Northumbria PCC Supporting Victims Fund

Vera Baird QC, the Police and Crime Commissioner for Northumbria is delighted to launch the second year of the PCC ‘Supporting Victims Fund’ providing financial support to strengthen and enhance victim services across Northumbria. The aim of the fund is to build capacity and maximise the potential of organisations to help ensure the improved provision of vital services to support victims of crime and help them cope and recover from the impact.

Clinks State of the Sector survey open

Clinks, the criminal justice charity, has its latest State of the Sector survey now open. This is your chance to tell your story and help Clinks to influence decision makers. How is your organisation faring? What successes and challenges are you experiencing? In the last survey Clinks were told that the needs of your service users are increasing and becoming more complex, and that many of you are relying on your reserves, putting you at risk of closure. How does this compare with your current experiences?

Survey into sector's experience of Transforming Rehabilitation

It has been 18 months since Clinks and VONNE formed a partnership to support the voluntary sector working in Criminal Justice in the North East and we are pleased to announce that we have secured resources to continue the project until March 2016. This will enable the North East Development Officer, Natalie Maidment, to continue to be seconded to Clinks until March 2016.

1st April brings new victims service in Northumbria

From 1st April 2015 the Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner has changed the way victims are supported in Northumbria. 'Victims First Northumbria' is an independent victim referral service. The service will be registered as a charity, it will ensure victims of crime, whether referred by police, by another agency or coming themselves to Victims First, are contacted by a co-ordinator who will give them help and support to cope and recover.

Durham Police and Crime Plan Refreshed

Durham Police and Crime Commissioner, Ron Hogg, has produced a police and crime plan which sets out Ron’s vision "To achieve excellence in local policing and the highest levels of public confidence by working alongside communities and partners to address what matters locally." The plan was subject to public consultation from 22nd December 2014 to 15th February 2015, and further revisions have been made to the plan following the consultation. This final refreshed Plan was endorsed by the Police and Crime Panel at their meeting on the 3rd March 2015.
