Funders Spotlight - Smallwood Trust: Women First Fund
The Trust’s mission is to enable women on low incomes to be financially resilient. It aims to achieve this through grant-making, evaluating what projects and approaches work best and partnership working.
The objective of the Women First Fund is to identify and document good practice that is achieving outcomes for women on low incomes by building their skills, confidence and aspirations to enable them to enter into employment.
In the 2019 funding round they are prioritising applications from the following areas:
- Newcastle, Teesside and other parts of the North East
- Greater Manchester
- Hull and Humberside
- Leeds and Bradford
- Rural communities in Kent, Cornwall, Cumbria, Dorset and Norfolk
They will also be prioritising the following client groups:
- Women who have been in persistent poverty.
- Women with multiple and complex needs.
Applications are open to charities, social enterprises and other not-for-profit organisations. The Trust will fund existing projects and ongoing work. Projects should be proven and able to evidence impact and good practice. This includes interventions that are not currently documented extensively or are being implemented in a new context.
The Trust estimates that it will award funds to 10 - 15 projects at an average size of £10,000 - £15,000 in a round. Funding will be awarded over one year initially. They would like to see a Living Wage in place for the posts they fund.
The deadline for the 2019 round is 4th March.
