New campaign raises awareness of carbon monoxide risks this summer

The All-Party Parliamentary Carbon Monoxide group recently launched the #CarbonMonoxideSafe4Summer campaign, which aims to raise awareness of the risks posed by carbon monoxide (CO) exposure.

This summer is shaping up to be a summer like no other. People across the country are investing in garden and outdoor living space like never before. In some places campsite bookings have increased by as much as 500 per cent, and many are renting caravans and boats to enjoy their summer holidays in the UK. However, as people head outside to enjoy the sun, many are unaware of the CO risks associated with BBQs, wood and coal burners, and liquid petroleum gas (LPG).

As well as raising awareness of the risks, the #CarbonMonoxideSafe4Summer campaign highlights the ways they can be mitigated. A recent campaign launch event outlined how you can get involved with the campaign to protect yourself, your family and your community from CO poisoning. Key measures include making sure you are in a well-ventilated environment when using BBQs and outdoor heaters, and always using a carbon monoxide alarm.

We can easily protect ourselves and each other from CO exposure by acting safely. If you're keen to support this campaign and help raise awareness, visit the United Against CO website.
