New report explores the possibilities of unrestricted funding

A new report has hailed the opportunities presented by unrestricted funding, calling it the "holy grail" for charities and funders.

The report, by the Institute for Voluntary Action Research (IVAR), features the voices of trustees and senior staff from 12 trusts and foundations, all of which have begun to adopt a more flexible approach to funding. These contributors highlight the benefits of unrestricted funds for charities and funders alike, citing increased flexibility and agility, more effective work, better relationships and more.

Having examined the value of unrestricted funding, the report turns to how funders have made the arrangement work in practice. It closes with a section that includes advice from funders, which will be valuable to charities, trusts and foundations looking to take advantage of unrestricted funding for themselves.

The full report can be read on the IVAR website. IVAR is also hosting a webinar on November 30th that will explore its research in more detail – register for a free place now on Eventbrite.
