As a follow on to their successful three-week GeNErosity Festival of Philanthropy and Giving in 2018, The Community Foundation are running a series of activities over three days in November 2019 to look at philanthropy and its role in addressing diversity and inclusion.
They will be delivering the events under the banner of the Festival hashtag #PoweredByPhilanthropy.
Through their Vital Signs reports, The Community Foundation have identified fairness and equality as issues where philanthropy could be doing more. Knowing that some causes are more popular with donors than others, and Foundation recognises its responsibility to shine a light on areas of disadvantage linked to inequality and exclusion. As well as backing diverse leaders who are making a difference through our area’s small, local charities.
This three-day festival aims to kick start that conversation, and begin a year of research, discussions, activity and grant-making by the Community Foundation.
Through the events, they aim to:
celebrate the work of small, local charities which are led by and which include people from diverse communities in North East England;
- raise understanding about the philanthropy of diverse communities, and how philanthropy has supported the development of greater equality and inclusion for marginalised groups;
- discuss challenging issues about the place of philanthropy alongside diversity and inclusion
- motivate people and businesses to do more philanthropy to address diversity and inclusion
