Public consultation on library services in Gateshead launched

Gateshead Council is inviting library users to share their thoughts on proposed changes to their local service, which would see some library buildings remodelled to become community spaces.

In response to changes in library use and budget restrictions, Gateshead Council argues that it's essential for library services to evolve to better meet the needs of local communities. Under the council’s plans certain libraries in Gateshead would become broader community spaces, run in partnership with local community and voluntary organisations. Library services would also be offered in other community buildings in a bid to improve reach.

The council have launched a 12-week public consultation to gather feedback on the proposed changes. Users of Gateshead’s library services, you can make your voice heard by completing an online questionnaire.

If you have questions about the consultation process or the future of the library service, drop-in sessions are also being held at various libraries in November and December. To find out more, visit the Gateshead Council website.
