Turn2us – free workshops and support for supporting people in financial hardship

Turn2us is a national charity that helps people in financial hardship gain access to welfare benefits, charitable grants and support services. They ran a workshop at our conference in November on their benefits calculator tool and they have been awarded funding by Comic Relief to run a programme of work in the North East of England and by Gwynt Y Mor in North Coastal Wales.

Turn2us runs a programme of workshops through which they teach front-line staff and volunteers how to use the Turn2us tools and services to support people in financial hardship. These are run both in-house and at a number of regional venues.

If you are part of a local charity or community group in the North East, this funding is allowing Turn2Us to offer the opportunity for organisations in the North East of England to have an in-house workshop and to also have a FREE portal on their website, linking to our resources. The Portal will allow organisation to embed our benefits calculator and/or our grants search tool directly onto their website and we will provide insight data, free of charge.

Turn2us are running an number of workshops in Gateshead over the coming months, on each date there is a morning and afternoon workshop.  We are also discussing a number of events in Durham, Sunderland and Tees Valley in May 2017 (more details to follow).

30th March

17th May

15th June

12th July

The workshops are aimed at staff and volunteers offering front line advice, support or information to individuals in financial hardship. The workshops are designed for people who are not benefit experts but want to know where to find the latest information and updates on welfare benefits and grants.

What will I learn in the workshop?

  • How to use the Turn2us Intermediaries Benefits Calculator and Grants Search tool.
  • How to access other resources including Find an Adviser and information on benefits and charitable grants.
  • The features and benefits of a MyTurn2us account, which enables intermediaries to apply directly to grant-giving charities online and to save benefit calculations.
  • Where to find the latest information on benefit changes including the roll out of universal credit, localised council tax support and housing benefit

And there will also be lots of opportunities for questions, answers and sharing of ideas throughout!
