As part of its VCS 2020 work, Newcastle CVS (Council for Voluntary Service) carried out a survey of its members in April 2015. The survey asked questions about the organisations - their status, their achievements and challenges, and what pressures they had identified for the future. Seventy one voluntary and community organisations completed the survey, and they represent a reasonable reflection of the Newcastle CVS membership, although small community organisations, i.e.

Third Sector Trends Study 2016

The Third Sector Trends study was conceived and originally commissioned by Northern Rock Foundation with research conducted by the Universities of Southampton, Teesside and Durham. The Community Foundation Tyne & Wear and Northumberland was a co-funder of the research and is now responsible for its legacy. The Community Foundation is now collaborating with partners including St Chad’s College at the University of Durham, Joseph Rowntree Foundation and IPPR North to expand and continue the research.

The focus of this report (2014) is understanding current funding resources in small to medium-sized voluntary organisations in the North East (NE), and what funders and others can do to help build a sustainable future funding base. It presents a unique picture of current income trends amongst frontline local voluntary organisations. Recent research has shown the negative effects of statutory spending cuts on local voluntary incomes, staffing and services in North East England.

The purpose of local infrastructure bodies is to provide services, support and advice to, and promote, local charities, community groups and social enterprises that deliver social action. A good infrastructure body will off er the right mixture of support, challenge, leadership, resource, skills and knowledge. It will also help to foster relationships between the local voluntary sector, public bodies and local business. They also promote social action and make sure local communities have a voice.

Independence in Question: the voluntary sector in 2016

Independence in Question is the fifth annual assessment of the state of health of the voluntary sector, following on from the final report the Panel on the Independence of the Voluntary Sector published in February 2015. It warns that the independence of the charity sector is at a five year low, leaving an unhealthy imbalance between community, private sector and state power and the sector in a critical position, and it calls for united action by the voluntary sector to stave off potential further threats.

The Social Value Act
