Job Title: Family Hubs Worker
Responsible to: Community Development Worker, Highfield House
Hours: 32 hours per week, flexibility for evening and occasional weekend work essential - 4 days preferably.
Fixed Term contract until 31/03/2026 with possible extension
Salary: £25,500 FTE (pro rata), per annum
Benefits: 25 days holiday per year, plus statutory holidays
Location: Based flexibly across Chopwell & Highfield
Organisation Context:
Edberts House is a vibrant community organisation based in East Gateshead. We are currently managing three strands of work, Community Development, Community Linking Project (Social Prescribing), and Health Equity. Our vision is to make the communities within which we are based happier, healthier, friendlier places to live. The charity builds the capacity of local people across Gateshead through the provision of courses, person-centred support, community events and activities. Our work across the GP surgeries allows us to provide bespoke and holistic support for individuals, children and families, acknowledging the challenges of everyday life in our communities.
This post will be based in one of our Community Houses based in the outer west of Gateshead. However, as part of the Edberts House staff team, the post-holder may be required to undertake some duties at other projects managed by Edberts House. The post-holder will report to the Community Development Worker, who oversees Highfield House
Job Purpose: An exciting opportunity to join our place-based Community Development team who are working alongside local people to develop, maintain & expand community support, activity and services. The postholder will work as part of the wider Gateshead Family Hubs, actively promoting and participating in the agenda, training, and development opportunities, supporting families with young children, predominantly under 2s, and building up the Family Hubs offer through the Community Houses.
To work closely with colleagues in the Community Development team, Community Linking Project and other inter-agency partners, working to maximise connections to the local community. To work with volunteers and community organisations; signposting, providing advice and ensuring community involvement is at the heart of all programme activity. Providing regular updates for evaluation and monitoring information on a regular basis.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Working alongside the local people to ensure the culture
of the Community House reflects Edberts House Values
and is an inclusive, kind and safe environment for
everyone
- Working alongside local people to continue to develop
and build our Family Hubs offer through building capacity, resilience, consistent
meaningful engagement and healthy interdependent relationships, supporting local people to navigate community conflict successfully
- Leading on a program of activity specifically for families with children under 2-years old, children and young people up to 19-years old, and up to 25yrs old for those with Special Educational Needs
- Ensuring activities are risk assessed appropriately in advance of sessions, consent forms completed and logged on the database
- Being an active member of the wider Community Development Team, attending regular team meetings, training opportunities, working & planning together, implementing change & development
- Operational support for the building management and day-to-day activity of the Community House, ensuring the building is clean, and Health & Safety, Risk Management and Fire Safety standards are maintained
- Identifying and responding to any safeguarding concerns in line with Edberts House Policy
- Attending regular support and supervision sessions
- Providing good quality & safe sessions through consistent behaviour management (in children & young people’s sessions), and standards are consistent with Edberts House Values
- Maintaining full, timely and accurate records on the database to provide regular information and data for the Senior Management Team, Board of Trustees and Stakeholders. Keeping a close eye on the obligations of the funding associated with the Community House, and the role.
- Pro-actively developing partnerships with agencies in the area, modelling the culture and Values of Edberts House
- Any other reasonable duties as required by the Line Manager
