Feeding Families is an award winning food insecurity charity which operates across North East England. We have a vacancy for a Warehouse Operative based in our busy Blaydon centre to work 21 hours (Monday, Wednesday and Friday). The role is to ensure that local charities, schools and organisations get the food support they need with the help of our many committed volunteers. It is essential to have a full clean driving licence and at least 2 years’ experience and be over 25 (for insurance purposes) to drive our work vans. Someone with a forklift licence is preferred. You must also be physically able to lift and move heavy items. This is a front facing role representing the charity and you will interact with our partners, supporters and volunteers so a cheerful can-do attitude and professional approach is a must.
Objectives
- To support the work of the Operations Team
- Assist with operations at the packing centre at Blaydon
- To ensure the packing centre sessions operate efficiently controlling stock, sorting food / packing boxes and maintaining the safety of the packing centre and volunteers while on the premises.
- Assist with loading and unloading of vehicles
- To ensure the packing centres are open to facilitate the collections and donations of food.
Main Responsibilities
- To operate our packing centres efficiently maximising the use of :
- Space and Storage
- Opening Times
- Volunteers during sessions
- Resources
- Be a professional face of the charity
- To be responsible during volunteering sessions to :
- Support distribution targets and production
- Maintain stock levels and report shortages back to the Warehouse Manager
- Load and unload vehicles
- Sort food
- Task volunteers with required roles
- In relation to the Packing Centres you will be responsible for :
- Health and Safety of visitors to the site
- Maintaining a log in and out of all volunteers on site for fire safety
- Reporting back to the Warehouse Manager any issues with the building or hazards
- Responsible for security of the premises while on duty and opening / closing
- Recording any accidents or injuries on site by completing the accident report forms and notifying the manager as soon as practicable
- Setting up the site for volunteers to attend
- Cleaning and overseeing the operation of the site
- Creating a positive working environment for volunteers
- To liaise with
- Working partners and maintain a professional contact through email / telephone conversations and physical visits to sites

- Continually building new relationships to work with the charity
- To be responsible for vehicle and drivers :
- To drive our vans when required
- Maintain a record of drivers of the van, ensuring that any driver has presented their driving licence and completed a driver volunteer form before driving the van.
- Sign the van out and back in, maintaining accurate records.
- Ensure van is kept clean, roadworthy and filled with fuel.

- Numbers of packed boxes and the distribution of boxes

- Drivers and maintain a rota for drivers to help
