With our sector facing significant pressures, some charitable organisations have found considering a merger or collaboration with a likeminded partner to be a positive step to maintain good governance and deliver operational objectives, enabling sustainable long term growth to better serve their beneficiaries.
This session will be lead by Fiona Wharton - charity sector governance consultant, and Head of Governance at Beamish Museum, with a wealth of charity law expertise. Fiona will also bring her own vast trustee experience to offer insights and recommendations of steering charities to successful mergers.
We will also be joined by Matthew Taylor - Director of Finance and Business Development at Healthworks, to hear their journey of merging to take operation of Useful Vision at the start of 2025.
We will consider a number of key questions:
• Why? - What are the pros and cons of a merger for your organisation? How might it help your charitable purpose?
• When? - When is the right time to merge whilst managing growing demands? Timing can be important.
• What? - Considering the options. There are multiple ways of structuring a merger or collaboration. There is no one size fits all.
• How? - The practicalities. Decision making, due diligence, the legal and financial process. Not forgetting communication and relationships, both internal and external.
