Bullion Hall is a busy community centre providing a range of activities and support to local residents.
The centre comprises 4 community rooms that host a range of activities from Youth Clubs to Tea Dance, Spanish to Ukulele, Dog Training to Yoga and Pilates.
Bullion Hall provides office space to a number of independent charities including County Durham Wheels to Work and Integrating Children.
Our café supports adults with learning disabilities, holds a 5-star food hygiene certificate and prepares meals and buffets that support the activities and users of the centre.
The hall is well supported by a team of 4 caretakers as well as community development workers, a finance officer and the café team.
The building is open from 8.30am-9pm Monday to Friday, Sunday mornings and occasional Saturdays. Throughout our opening times we have at least one caretaker on site who is well trained in relation to First Aid, Health and Safety, Fire Marshall etc.
The centre has been open since 2002 and has well established practices in place, we are looking for a postholder who can ensure that we keep all the plates spinning and that the building meets all the requirements of Health , Safety and Welfare.

Job Description
To manage a team of 4 caretakers ensuring rotas are prepared 3 weeks in advance and that the workload requirements of the building are met (this includes managing activities that have demands on car park space or particular set up requirements, building in time for day to day and deep cleaning, external and internal maintenance and repair work).
To ensure that the experience of our 600+ customers each week is a positive one, that they feel well informed about what’s on and engaged in the activities in the centre.
To ensure that the reasonable requirements of office users are met.
To undertake and update risk assessments , ensure that all records are maintained and up to date in respect of building compliance , health and safety etc.
To monitor the fabric of the building and its contents, recording and actioning as appropriate any repairs that may be needed.
To monitor and maintain a record of the state of premises, furnishings and equipment, ensure safe conditions throughout at all times and avoid where practicable any deterioration of facilities. To ensure that the Chief Officer is kept informed to enable authorisation/payment of any expenditure required or in order for her to secure relevant grant funding.
- To maintain a record of all contractors that we can call upon as required e.g. electricians, domestic appliance repairs , plumbers etc.
- To schedule external contractors to undertake compliance checks as needed e.g. annual gas certificate . To maintain records to show checks have been undertaken and recommendations have been actioned
- To ensure all in -house weekly/monthly /quarterly/ annual Health and Safety checks are undertaken and records kept up to date. E.g. fire alarm tests.
- To ensure that all electrical items in the building hold an up-to-date PAT test and to maintain records.
- To monitor supplies of goods within Bullion Hall and undertake, purchasing as required.
- To maintain an inventory of furniture and equipment within the building, ensuring that any new equipment purchased is recorded in the inventory and a record maintained of equipment that is disposed of and why.
- To maintain/keep up to date the receipts and guarantees file that records items purchased and for how long guarantees are valid.
- To draft policies and procedures that support the smooth running of the centre.
- To contribute to the publicity and promotion of Bullion Hall including updating the website, Facebook pages and paper leaflets.
- To contribute to the booking system ensuring bookings are diarised and with the Finance officer that payments are received.
- To work with Chief Officer to prepare Health and Safety reports for the Exec committee meetings every 2 months.

We appreciate that the successful candidate may not have undertaken all of the training listed but it is an essential requirement that they are willing to do so.

Summary of Terms and Conditions of Employment .
Probationary period. This post will be subject to the satisfactory completion of a 6-month probationary period. Place of Work Bullion Hall Holiday entitlement. 25 days plus bank holidays pro rata. Some holiday days may be mandatory. Pension There is a workplace pension scheme in operation with an employer contribution of 3% for eligible employees. Other Bullion Community Resource Centre contributes to the Simplyhealth scheme which means that employees can have certain health care costs reimbursed e.g. opticians. Staff are enrolled following satisfactory completion of the probationary period.
