The postholder will be assigned geographical areas within which they will work across the Force area and will have a role in supporting the delivery of the Police Crime & Justice Plan 2025-29.

Community Safety Coordinator - Job Description

 

Job Title:                                 Community Safety Coordinator 

Responsible To:                      Durham Agency Against Crime  

 

Job Purpose

Working closely with the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner and Neighbourhood    Policing Teams to co-ordinate activities and build relationships to address priorities raised by the community. 

To promote activities that increase safety, prevent crime and antisocial behaviour, protect individuals and communities, deter offending and reoffending. 

The postholder will be assigned geographical areas within which they will work across the Force area and will have a role in supporting the delivery of the Police Crime & Justice Plan 2025-29.

The postholder will be matrix managed by staff from the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner and Durham Agency Against Crime. 

 

Main Duties & Responsibilities

To work directly with the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner as a coordinator, liaising with key partners to ensure that a multi-agency approach delivers organisational goals and increases public confidence in the police, OPCC and all key partners.

To be embedded into the Neighbourhood Policing model, being visible to communities and promoting the work of the police force and PCC.

To proactively help the delivery and reporting back on activities which address community concerns as noted in PACT meetings, residents’ meetings, parish council meetings, pubwatch, shopwatch and other key engagement forums. 

Carry out problem solving plans, ensuring that actions are completed in a timely manner, and that expected outcomes are delivered.

Actively apply for funding pots to assist the Neighbourhood Policing Teams in innovative community engagement and projects.

Support the response to rough sleeping, nuisance begging and anti-social behaviour (as appropriate), compiling reports for the application of criminal behaviour orders and other powers within the Antisocial Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 and other relevant legislation. 

Support the delivery of government projects including Hotspot Action Fund and Serious Violence.

Participate in meetings and deliver innovative safety measures by working with key partners, the business and volunteer sector.

Promote the take up and expansion of Keep in the Know across the force area.

Set up and support volunteer community safety groups including Neighbourhood Watch, Business Watch, Garage Watch, Community Speed Watch, etc.

Undertake regular engagement (weekly) with local communities to help them play an active role in crime prevention and resolve local issues.

To capture and share evidence of successful activities which address the priorities identified by the local communities (photos, videos, social media, and other digital means).

To support Durham Police and Crime Commissioners Office, Durham Constabulary, and partners at a range of external events.

To undertake any other tasks, duties or projects that may arise from time to time which are commensurate with the general level of the post, as directed.

To have flexibility in working hours to enable attendance at events held in the evenings and at weekends.
