Children North East is a large North East based children’s charity that works across the region, with some work extending across England, Wales and Scotland. We exist because growing up can be hard. We want all babies, children and young people to be happy and healthy, and to grow up feeling safe and loved, resilient to the challenges they may face, and valued and confident.

Children North East require a Mental Health Youth Worker to support the delivery of group work, direct intervention, and 1:1 support of young people who experience SEND and/or neurodiversity. The successful candidate will be instrumental in providing young people, who are either pre or post diagnosis of a neurodiversity condition such as autism, with interventions that will help them to understand their neurodiversity and to meet their personal goals. This is a fixed term post until March 31st 2026 and is offered at 30 hours per week.

The successful candidate will support with the delivery of a variety of peer support and psycho educational groups as well as 1-1 work in Gateshead and Newcastle with the potential of working more widely across the region for example Northumberland or North Tyneside. Groups are typically delivered between 3 – 7pm and the ability and willingness to travel to different locations locally and to be available for evening work are essential for this post.

The successful candidate will have experience of working with young people aged between 11 – 25 preferably including young people who are neurodivergent or have special educational needs. A young people’s mental health or youth work qualification is desirable.

This role is £24,843 to £27,369 per annum, pro-rated for 30 hours per week.

This role is fixed term until 31st March 2026.
