Role description: Executive Director

Could you help Big River Byker thrive as part of our Board of Directors ?

Big River Byker is looking for people to join our Board of Directors, to support our work to open more community buildings in Byker.

Are you passionate about community-led development and transforming spaces into useful, affordable and welcoming places ? Big River Byker is on the lookout for people to join our Board of Directors to help shape the future of community buildings in Byker.

Formerly known as Stottie Power and managed up till now by Big River Bakery,  Big River Byker is a new Community Interest Company (CIC) dedicated to securing long-term, affordable spaces for local independent businesses, community groups, and socially trading organisations. As one of five pilot projects across England, we’re supported by Platform Places and funded by the National Lottery Communities Fund. https://www.platformplaces.com/

We believe in the power of place. When people steward and have ownership over spaces in their neighbourhoods, incredible things happen. That’s why we’re bridging the gap between those who have space and those who need it—bringing together property expertise and community passion to create lasting impact.

We’re seeking up to four new Directors who are committed to our social mission, willing to get involved, and excited to help us grow. We’d welcome applications from anyone who is interested in joining us but we’re particularly interested in people with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Legal (company, contract, or property law)
  • Finance (accounting, financial management, investment)
  • Property (acquisition, management, development, surveying)
  • Planning (urban planning, regeneration, community development)
  • Acquisition of buildings (negotiation, due diligence, asset transfer)
  • Community engagement and capacity building.
