Hours: Full-time (occasional Saturdays, with TOIL where agreed)

Direct reports: Shop staff, drivers, volunteers, placements

The Opportunity
Are you the right person to lead our reuse shop team, offering great choice, support and genuine sustainability to the community? We are looking for a dynamic, enterprising individual who will bring their style, creativity and enthusiasm to this new and rewarding role.
What does the role involve?
As shop manager, you will be accountable for the shop's performance, cementing CVL’s community reuse shop as a key part of the National Reuse Network, maximising sales through physical and digital channels.
Each day will be different, with a busy shop, large stock inventory and regular collections and deliveries of a wide range of reused and new goods.
About CVL and the Community Shop
CVL exists to help bring vacant properties back into use again quickly and affordably, while reducing waste and creating local jobs. The Community Shop supplies to local authorities and also sells direct to the public at the same fair shelf price, with delivery and installation available.
Stock is sourced through the Reuse Network and local streams (including commercial returns and end-of-line routes).
Context and funding
This role supports the growth plan being delivered with CAF social investment, including a staged finance approach and clear operational milestones.
What are we looking for?
Essential
- Experience working in a customer facing role in retail, hospitality or service industry
- Charity/second hand retail experience preferred for this fast-paced role. Strong management skills to lead team of paid and voluntary staff.
- Experience of leading, motivating and developing teams
- Commercial awareness
- Ability to achieve sales targets
- Committed to achieving the highest retail standards at all times
- Able to work under own initiative and take a proactive approach to changing business needs and objectives
- Thrives working in a hands-on, fast-paced environment
- An understanding of budgets and P&L
Desirable
- Experience with furniture reuse, white goods, electrical safety testing workflows, or warehouse operations
- Experience delivering referral or local authority fulfilment models
- Understanding of reuse supply routes and partnership working
Key accountabilities
- Deliver safe, welcoming, well-managed shop operations and strong trading performance
- Build an efficient intake-to-sale process for furniture and white goods, including quality and safety controls
- Run effective logistics (collections, deliveries, installation) with safe fleet management
- Deliver local authority fulfilment with accurate evidence and reporting.
- Stand up and grow online trading, with a practical workflow for listing, dispatch, and returns
