Volunteering Matters is a national charity that exists to create stronger communities, through the power of volunteering. We work with local partners to develop high impact volunteering programmes that support individuals and communities across the UK.
Our Home from Hospital volunteering project in Newcastle is funded by the Northeast and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board. The project was developed in 2021 to help older people aged 65+ thrive back at home, and in the community, following a stay in hospital.
Preventing re-admissions to hospital is crucial for the NHS. Re-admissions cost the NHS over £2 billion per year, and no-one wants to be in hospital when they can be recovering safely and comfortably at home.
We recruit, train, support and coordinate volunteers, who provide a “little bit of help” to people who may be socially isolated, have health issues, or don’t have many people around them. Volunteers provide social, emotional or practical support, completing short-term tasks for up to 6 weeks after discharge.
This includes things like helping with shopping, collecting medical prescriptions, in person or telephone check in’s, driving someone to an appointment, helping with paperwork, ensuring the home is safe and secure, and more.
Engagement Manager role
We're looking for a talented, dynamic, and professional Engagement Manager to join our Newcastle team and lead our Home from Hospital project. The right candidate would be someone with excellent knowledge of “best practice” in Volunteer Management, and experience of supporting older people.
It is essential that the postholder is agile, can work flexibly, is an excellent communicator, and can build strong working relationships with a range of people. For further info, please see the full Job Description and Person Specification. Apply through the CharityJobs website before the deadline.
This is initially a Fixed Term Contract until 31 December 2026 with a salary of £23,062 pro rata (£25,625 Full Time Equivielent). While some aspects of the role can be completed from home, this role requires local in-person work and therefore it is important that the post holder lives in, or close to, Newcastle upon Tyne. A contract extension is possible depending on future funding being secured (TBC).
