Help Shape Newcastle’s International Future – Join the Board of International Newcastle

Could you help make Newcastle an even more welcoming, connected and internationally minded city? International Newcastle is seeking up to three new Company Directors to join our voluntary Board and help guide the next chapter of our work supporting Newcastle as a multicultural, inclusive and globally connected city. We are particularly interested in hearing from people who can bring experience, insight or lived experience relating to:

  • Newcastle’s diverse language, faith and cultural communities
  • Young people’s perspectives (applicants must be aged 18+)

No previous board experience is required. We provide a full induction and ongoing support for new Directors.

The Role

As a Company Director and member of the Board, you will help ensure International Newcastle delivers its vision, mission and community interest objectives while maintaining strong governance. The role is voluntary and advisory. 

Commitment includes:

  • Four Board meetings per year (typically two hours each)
  • Email correspondence between meetings
  • Occasional involvement in working groups, events and strategic discussions

Meetings are primarily held online, with occasional meetings and events in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Our Impact

International Newcastle leads a wide range of initiatives that connect Newcastle to the world, including:

  • Supporting international partnerships for schools
  • Helping secure over £2.2 million in funding for international educational visits
  • Promoting and supporting language learning and teaching 
  • Supporting schools, communities and partners to celebrate diversity and inclusion and promote intercultural understanding
  • Hosting and coordinating Express Yourself: North East Festival of Languages, the largest festival of its kind in the UK and Europe, which engaged more than 115,000 children and young people in 2026
