To celebrate Trustee Week (7-13th November) the Better Governance working group, part of the NE Together: Leaders Network for Social Change, has launched a range of new opportunities to encourage more people to become trustees of charitable organisations in the North East.

An event on the 9th November for potential first time Trustees has attracted over 70 attendees from the private, public and voluntary sectors interested in exploring trusteeship.

Alongside this a new Trustees NE LinkedIn group has been set up, where individuals interested in becoming a trustee can promote themselves to VCSE organisations and organisations can advertise trustee opportunities on the jobs board of the group page.

Before the event on the 9th November we are asking VCSE organisations with trustee opportunities to visit the page, join as a member and post any current trustee opportunities so that at the event on 9th November, there are plenty of opportunities for individuals to consider.

The Better Governance working group have also pulled together a number of useful trustee resources, websites and guidance documents to support new and existing trustees into a resources directory which is hosted on the VONNE website here.

Following on from the event, participants will have the opportunity to register their interest in additional support including a First Trusteeship learning and development programme,  a Trustee Matching service facilitated by the Community Foundation Tyne & Wear and Northumberland or skills sharing volunteering opportunities via the Cranfield Trust.
