Children in Need Project Costs funding is now open for applications. Here's everything you need to know about the funding and how to apply.
What are Project Costs?
Project costs support the aims and delivery of a specific piece of work your organisation is undertaking. Work is usually time-limited and based on a defined set of activities and outcomes. Funding will not be given for work that's already taken place, or costs incurred before the date a grant decision is made. If you are awarded a grant, project work must begin within 12 months.
Who can apply?
Not-for-profit organisations working with children and young people (aged 18 or under).
Priority funding is given to smaller, local organisations. As a result, organisations with a turnover of more than £2m in their most recent complete financial year with rarely be funded for project costs, unless you are one of the following:
- Hospice;
- Housing Association;
- Delivering nationwide or UK wide work.
How much can you apply for?
Maximum grant amount available is £120,000 over three years (£40,000 per year) but most grants awarded are for much less than that. Applications for grants of £15,000 or less will receive a quicker decision.
If your project directly supports certain groups of especially vulnerable children and young people, you'll be unable to apply for less than £15,001 per year. In particular, this means work with children affected by child sexual exploitation, criminal exploitation or serious youth violence. The approach to funding work in these areas involves making larger grants and building deeper relationships with delivery organisations.
What's the application deadline?
There are no application deadlines, and you can apply at any time. Children in Need advise that you plan your application date so that you'll receive a decision in plenty of time before the work will begin. A high number of applications are received between October and January, so bear in mind that if you submit an application during that time, it may take longer to get a decision.
