Below are a number of opportunities from the North East and Yorkshire Net Zero Hub , currently on offer to community energy organisations across the North East and Yorkshire. 

Carbon Literacy training & certification funded by the North East & Yorkshire Net Zero Hub 

Carbon Literacy training which includes a focus on community energy. Training places are fully funded for those in the North East England & Yorkshire working on, with, or interested in supporting community energy projects. Book your place at Carbon Literacy CoursesAll courses online unless stated otherwise and involves 2 half day online sessions apart from the 12 Dec which is planned to be a full day in person. 4 courses are available for the following audiences – 

 

 

Community Energy Surgeries

The surgeries offer one to one intensive and interactive support, offering community energy groups and Local Authorities supporting them the opportunity to work one-on-one with sector specialists to address specific issues or questions relating to their projects. This could range from setting up your group, to procurement, low carbon technology or grid connection questions. Booking slots are allocated on an ‘on request/ call-off’ basis, so follow the link below to select and book a time slot that is convenient for you. Click the arrows either side of the month name to scroll through months to see the available dates. Once your booking is confirmed an online meeting link will be sent to you. This is currently only available till mid December 2025 so sign up ASAP Surgery sessions.

 

Great British Energy Community Fund
Funding of up to £140,000 for feasibility and development work is available to help parish and town councils, community organisations, faith groups and community interest companies amongst others, get started on clean power projects that benefit their local areas. More info, guidance and application documents can be found at – Great British Energy Community Fund – North East & Yorkshire Net Zero Hub

Closing date for applications is midnight 12th November 2025 and we are allocating the funding on a first come basis.

Northern Powergrid Community Energy Resilience fund - Round 6 deadline 13th October 2025 at 12pm. northernpowergridfoundation.com

Grants of up to £20,000 to support projects that build stronger, more resilient communities. These grants are designed to support projects that help communities stay safe, warm, and connected during energy-related emergencies. Looking for impactful, community-led ideas that:

  • Strengthen local energy resilience
  • Support vulnerable individuals
  • Deliver long-term benefits for sustainability and wellbeing

Northern Powergrid - Free Community Energy Bitesized Training Modules - NPG have designed a range of 15–20-minute bitesize modules that they can deliver both face to face or over teams, depending upon your group’s needs and preference.
